Twenty-One

This handsome young man turned 21 yesterday. I was with a friend last night that at each of her children's birthdays, she tells them about the day they were born. That got me reflecting on my youngest birthday. I had remarried and Stephen and I did not want to waste any time, so I was pregnant within a few months after our wedding. I did not have an easy pregnancy. I was on bed rest for six months. When I was pregnant with Devon, she had decided to arrive at 27 weeks. Very unexpected and frightening. Twenty eight years ago having a baby that early was very dangerous. But now she is beautiful 28 year old. So when I found out that I was pregnant, I was naturally very worried. Within three months, I was having difficulties and was put on bed rest and hooked up to everything. Day to day was filled with worries that I would keep this little one. At one of my doctor's visits, the doctor asked us if we wanted to know the sex of our child. Stephen and I didn't want to know the sex of the baby but I was secretly hoping for a girl. I only have one sister and a daughter. I only knew about girls. Well, God had something else in mind. When Ryan arrived a month early, I was smitten. I have loved watching this beautiful baby boy turn into this wonderful young man. So Happy Birthday Ryan! May all your dreams come true! Love your Mama.
