French B & B and Antiquing Weekend

One of reasons I love what I do is getting to travel to fun places, meet like minded people and of course shopping for antiques.  My cute little hubby and I left early Saturday morning and drove up to Roseville to visit my friend Sandy Bryan who puts on a great little show called Mes Amis.  I have been wanting to go to her show forever and finally convinced my husband that if we went to a couple of shows that he would have my undivided attention for the weekend.  Up Hwy. 5 we went and entered the cute town of Roseville.  We wandered the main street, chatted with vendors and looked at treasures and spent a little time with Sandy who I adore.

One of my vendors Katy of The Rusty Clover being a little prankster!

After lunch,  we leisurely drove over to Petaluma to spend the night so we could attend the Petaluma Antique Fair Sunday morning.  A friend of mine has always raved about this B & B that she always stays at in Petaluma, so I booked it online.  Well!  I was in heaven from the moment we drove onto the gravel parking lot.  It is called the Metro Hotel & Cafe.  I will let the pictures tell you how I felt about this place!

We had so much fun!  Ate at wonderful restaurants, slept great and then off to the Petaluma Antique Street Faire.  Sprinkling a little in the morning but that did not stop us.

Great weekend!

Marburger Antique Show in Texas

In two weeks, I am so excited because I am going to the Marburger Show in Texas for FIVE days!  I am traveling with three wonderful ladies, Cheryl, who handles my marketing and logistics of Remnants of the Past, Judi Powers of The Dana Powers House and Embellish and her friend Charlotte.  We fly into Houston and drive to a little town near Round Top where the show is located.  Opening Day is on Tuesday, April 2nd, and we are going to be some of the lucky ones that get to see this show.  I want to soak up this show!  I am looking forward to being inspired, wowed and getting my creative juices flowing.

Many of the vendors from Remnants also participate in this bi-annual show in Texas.  I thought I would take this time to show what goes into preparing and just getting to this show.  One of the vendors that I was able to get caught up with is Kathy Harris of Aardvark Antiques.  She and her crew were loading up their three storage units to participate first in the Warrenton Show and then setting up again for the much anticipated Marburger Show.  Here is a short video of the start of this process.  I am going to try to chronicle our trip so be sure to check back!

San Luis Obispo Ambassador

IMG_0036

I have lived in the San Luis Obispo area for almost 30 years now.  I was a transplant from Southern California when I moved here and it would take an army to move me now.  My husband was born and raised here, lucky guy!  San Luis Obispo has been named the "Happiest and Friendliest" places in the nation!  There is so many things to do and see and just experience.  This past month, there was a contest launched looking for the perfect person to represent our amazing county and all that it has to offer.  Last night, I was fortunate enough to attend a gathering at the Wine Shed to welcome our new San Luis Obispo Ambassador, Bentley Murdok and his wife Michelle.  What a warm, engaging and fun man!  Not only that, Bentley is an amazing musician.

Welcome Bentley as he will be at Remnants in June!

Remnants and a New Year

2013-01-10 07.36.27

My favorite time of year is Christmas.  I love decorating the house and making our home a special place for family and friends to visit.  I want them to feel the magic of the Season and enjoy the wonder of this time and hopefully walk away sensing and feeling wonder.  After the last vintage ornament is packed carefully away and the house is back in order, it always feels like a fresh slate for me to start the New Year.  That time between Christmas and New Years always makes me feel like a horse straining at the gate to start the race.  My head is brimming with dreams, goals and ideas to start the New Year and I can hardly wait until the clock strikes midnight on December 31st to take off running.

I live in dream place on the Central Coast of California and it is a perfect place to start my planning for the New Year and wait until you hear all the exciting things that will be happening for the June 2013 Remnants of the Past Show.

Not only am I a lover of all things antique and vintage but I also have a strong passion for handmade items.  I feel that if you love vintage you are also most likely to love something handmade over something new.  And for me, if it is made in America, that is the best!  I am so excited to announce that our special guest for the June 2013 Show will be Jen O'Conner of Earth Angels Studio, Ben Ashby of FOLK Magazine and Jo Packham of Where Women Create introducing her new magazine Where Women Create Business.

The June Show is going to be so packed with talent that I can hardly wait.  Check back weekly on my blog as I introduce you to my amazing vendors but also to this amazing talent that will be visiting Remnants.

See you soon!
