I remember walking up to this beautiful, funky and creative booth at a flea market and thinking I need to ask if they would be a part of Remnants.  After, I introduced myself to these two adorable ladies, I knew they must participate but it took some convincing.  I am happy to say that it has been three years now and I couldn't imagine not having Katy and Colette a part of Remnants.  Katy is going solo this Fall show so let's give her big hand!

 1.  What is the funniest antique item that you have purchased from an antique show or flea market? and why?

As for the funniest things that I have bought only came to me recently while looking at it in the car after I made the purchase.  you see its a strap on one legged milking stool. You have to use your dirty mind to see what I saw.  I will have it at the show so you can always see it for yourself!

Or try it on....No I did not say that out loud.

2.  If you had to leave your home because of a natural disaster, what collection of yours would you grab first and why?

What collection would i take first would be our Irish Beleek and then my vintage ornaments. Then maybe my kids dog and husband, in that order! 

3.  If you were to write a book about your life, what would the title be and why?

" As long as we come out laughing we can do anything!  "  That would be my title since "Anything for a Buck " was taken!

Pensieri Design

Jody was a customer that would come into my store everytime she came into town.  Over time, I got to know Jody and realized that she has a incredible eye for antique textiles and buys the most exquisite pieces and recreates them to works of art.  Her business, Pensieri Design, is known for the best vintage textiles and Jody regulary sells at the well known show Marburger and people come from far to see her.  Welcome Jody....

1  What is the funniest antique item that you have purchased from an antique show or flea market? and why?

I can't say here! 

2.  If you had to leave your home because of a natural disaster, what collection of yours would you grab first and why?

My photo albums and my collection of antique textiles,

wall hangings, tapestry, etc. 

3.  If you were to write a book about your life, what would the title be and why?

My Nine Lives...

Because I've had some interesting adventures that were nearly fatal.

I've known Georgeann for quite a while now and I know that I am putting her on the spot asking her questions but I was able to squeeze a couple of answers out of her.

1.  What is the funniest antique item that you purchased either at an antique show or flea market and why?

I CAN'T THINK OF ANYTHING WEIRD I BOUGHT BUT THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED ON ONE BUYING TRIP I WENT ON.

CAROLYN (A FRIEND FOR 49 YRS) WENT ON A LONG BUYING TRIP. BRIMFIELD,MAINE NEW HAMPSHIRE AND PENN. WE ARE EXHAUSTED. WE BOTH THOUGHT THE OTHER HAD SET THE ALARM FOR 4:00 AM. WE ARE STAYING AT A MOTEL 100  YARDS FROM THE FLEE MARKET. SUDDENLY WE BOTH WOKE UP TO VOICES AND REALIZED IT WAS 8:30 A.M. AND THE FLEE MARKET HAD STARTED HOURS BEFORE. WE FLEW OUT OF OUR BEDS AND RAN OVER TO THE MARKET.

2.  In case of a natural disaster, what would be the first antique collection you would grab and why?

IF MY HOUSE WAS ON FIRE I WOULD GRAB MY 40 YEAR COLLECTION OF XMAS ORNAMENTS AND SANTA'S.

3.  If you were to write a book about your life, what would the title be and why? 

I WOULD NAME MY BOOK

Antiques from Memory Lane

 

Nancy of Antiques from Memory Lane was a customer of mine for many years and now a veteran dealer of Remnants.  Nancy collections of vintage fabric, buttons and her handmade creations are beautiful.  Here is Nancy...

  1.  What is the funniest item that you have purchased at an antique show or flea market and why?

The funniest item I've purchased....not really funny, but fun!  A dealer (store) Don & I frequent in Renton Washington always passes on good deals to us when we come in.  He pointed out a rather ugly vase and said "It books for $1800.  I've had it in my store for 5 years. I'll give it to you for a little over what I bought it for and you can try it in your market.". 

So I bought the ugly vase for $185 & sold it in my shop when I was at Old Edna for $1200!    The nice shop owner, (and we've gotten many other terrific deals from him). St Charles Place, Renton, WA.

2.  If you had to leave your home immediately because of a natural disaster, what would be the first collection you would grab and why?

What collection of mine would I grab first if I had to leave quickly...?? I've always had an affinity for buttons, lace & antique textiles.  Just last week while clearing out our parents home I came across a little draw string bag made of silk, dress velvet & lace which I made for my mother-in-law when I was a very young woman.  I realized at that moment how deep & enduring this marriage has been: my love for vintage textiles.  It's my passion & I cannot keep my hands off an old piece of fabric.   Still, in an emergency I'd probably walk away with my animals and family photo's.  :-)

3:  If you were to write a book about your life, what would the title be and why?

The title of my book?  My Lifelong Quest to Find Quiet Time.  :-). Like every other woman no doubt.

Chalk Farm Home

 

I've followed Jennifer of Chalk Farm Home for a couple of years and love her style and her.  Jennifer is so creative, talented and a fighter and I applaud her. Here is Jennifer...

  1. What is the funniest antique item that you have purchased at an antique show or flea market?

I found an old German stuffed lion toy at an estate sale. It was similar to a Steiff toy, and it opened its mouth to roar when you wound it up. But this was no cute lion. It's eyes were scary looking and when it opened its mouth, it looked downright maniacal. My baby cried whenever she saw it, and our dog barked at it all the time.

One day, our dog Bess took it upon herself to rid our home of this stuffed invader. I went out into the garden and found it chewed to bits!

2. If you had to leave your home immediately because of a natural disaster, what collection would you grab first?

I would want anything given to me by my children, and all of my family photos.

3. If you were to write a book about your life, what would the title be and why?

That's a tough question. My life has been so multi-faceted: mother of three, wife, actress, singer, cancer survivor, business owner....It would probably be something like "The girlfriend's guide to juggling it all--and still making it to the flea-market on time."

UrbanFarm Naturals

I hate to admit this, but I kinda stalked Tamila of UrbanFarm Naturals through the blog world. I just loved the organic look of her product and then just loved the farm, the kiddies, hubbie and how they all worked together as a family. So, I reached out and asked Tamila to be a part of Remnants for this past June Show and she was a hit! Tamila will be back for this Fall and here are her answers to my questions.

--What is the funniest antique item that you have purchased from an antique show or flea market? and why?

About 9 years ago I bought this really cool old retro toaster. It would burn the toast almost every single time we used it because the "toast going up" mode didn't work automatically, you had to unplug it to get it to rise. Jeff wanted a new toaster, but I always said, "no, we have one & it's cool!" In the mornings I would often look outside and see our dog Charlie eating burnt toast because Jeff would always forget to unplug it. About 6 months ago Jeff kept getting distracted with the kids and burnt the toast three separate times! Later that morning I looked out our back yard and saw not only the burnt toast pieces, but the toaster as well. That was the end of my "Cool Vintage Toaster"!

-- If you had to leave your home because of a natural disaster, what collection of yours would you grab first and why?

I like to travel light! My little tiny ceramic chicken sitting on my kitchen window sill would be all that I would grab (besides the kids!) My great grandmother made it & it is my favorite collectible.

--If you were to write a book about your life, what would the title be and why?

"Welcome to the funny farm!" Because our life on our little farm is pretty funny at times & besides that we like to laugh (mostly at each other!)
